Will Mando Rescue Baby Yoda?

*MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD*

First off, I know what you’re thinking. His name is Grogu! Not Baby Yoda! And I hear you. I just don’t care. Nobody ever corrects me when I say Mando instead of Din Djarin! Leave me alone!

Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s get to what the rest of us are thinking. How will Mando save Baby Yoda from Moff Gideon this week? Or will he save him?

To recap, in the episode The Tragedy, Mando took Baby Yoda to an enchanted rock (not the one in Fredericksburg, TX) so that he could use the Force to call out to any remaining Jedi who might be able to train him.

While Baby Yoda was striking a pose, Mando got into an entanglement with the undead Boba Fett and Fennec Shand. While all that was going on, Moff Gideon’s people came in, blew up Mando’s ship, and kidnapped Baby Yoda! The normal formula for a season 2 episode usually goes like this:

• Mando and Baby Yoda show up on a new planet
• The residents have information Mando needs
• The residents also have a problem only Mando (and his blaster) can solve
• While Mando’s solving the problem, he gets into trouble and is saved at the last second

Only this time he didn’t get saved at the last second and Baby Yoda got snatched!

In last week’s episode, Boba Fett walks around in his polished armor while Mando and Mayfeld go on a mission to retrieve the coordinates of Moff Gideon’s ship. Along the way, some pirates try to blow them up but they’re saved at the last second. That seems like a theme but this time they’re saved by the bad guys who don’t know they’re the good guys!

To get the coordinates, Mando and Mayfeld have to access a kiosk in a little dining room that for some reason only works if it scans your face. It doesn’t do anything with your facial scan and it doesn’t scan you for confirmation that you have access to sensitive information. Apparently just having a face is enough. No droids allowed.

As a test that is hinted at heavily during the beginning of the episode, Mando has to go against his teaching and show his face to others in order to get the information needed to save his son. Mayfeld asks him to scan his face at the kiosk because people might recognize him. In a shocking turn of events, nobody recognizes him and Mando shows his face for nothing. Things get crazy and a shootout happens but in the end, Mando gets the coordinates and it looks like he’s heading straight for Moff Gideon.

It all leads up to this week’s epic showdown. My prediction is that Mando fights Moff Gideon, gets into some trouble that it looks like he can’t get out of, and then is saved at the last second, possibly by the Mandalorians he met earlier in the season. They’ll probably help defeat Moff Gideon and reclaim the darksaber. But I bet Moff Gideon escapes to come after Baby Yoda another day.

I fee like somebody has to die, though. Possibly one of the other Mandalorians or maybe even Fennec Shand. Definitely not Boba Fett, Mando, or Baby Yoda, though. Or Cara Dune. This isn’t The Walking Dead.

But I guess we’ll find out tomorrow.
